Frequently Asked Questions

How much weight can hairpin legs support?

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A ROUGH GUIDE ONLY AND GREAT CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WHEN BUILDING HEAVY ITEMS. HAIRPIN LEGS ARE VERY STRONG, BUT THIS IS ONLY ONE PART OF THE ITEM YOU ARE BUILDING. OVERALL CONSTRUCTION AND FIXING TO THE LEGS WILL DETERMINE YOUR OVERALL STRENGTH.

The weight limit depends on the length you choose. Below is a rough guide to get you started.

If you have any further enquiries/questions feel free to pop us an email.

100cm Hairpin Legs | Bar / Kitchen Island / Design Table / Entrance Table

Tall hairpin legs can transform a simple wooden surface into a unique home Bar, Kitchen Island, Design Table or Entrance Table. Our 100cm pins support up to 80kg freestanding, but more if you fix the table to a wall or static fixing.
The longer the legs, the more likely they will flex for this reason we only offer the 100cm legs in a 3-Rod option.

70cm Hairpin Legs | Dining Table / Office Desk / Dressing Table

70cm 3-Rod – 10mm solid steel rod legs can support a tabletop up to around 60kg. The legs can actually hold quite a lot more than this but we suggest staying in these limits in order to ensure your table remains sturdy without a wobble.
3-Rod is recommended whenever you are intending to work or eat at the table. The 3rd rod offers a huge amount of extra stiffness, creating a rock solid work surface.

70cm V-Bend – 10mm legs are only suitable for side tables that you do not intend to work or eat at. If you prefer the look of the V-Bend legs for a desk/dining table then we would recommend that you make an enquiry for heavy duty (12mm) legs. They can support a tabletop up to around 25kg. Both the classic and heavy duty legs will support much heavier weights however they will flex and this does not produce a high quality feel to your finished table.

40cm Hairpin Legs | Bench / Coffee Table / Side Table / Bedside Table

As a general rule of thumb, our V-bend legs are good for up to 2 – 3 average sized adults. The 3-Rod legs are recommended when you have 3 people or more.

15/20cm Hairpin Legs | Special Requests

On these shorter legs, you will find it hard to get a top which is too heavy for them. It has been tested with 250kg concrete tops and have multiple people stand on top without any issues. They really are that strong!

My table bends in the middle due to the weight, what can I do?

If your table bends in the middle due to the weight then we would suggest a few options.

Square Tubing / Angle Iron Brace
The cleanest way to fix this in most cases is with a steel support underside the table. Choose between 25mm and 50mm steel width and screw it in along the underside of the table. We recommend 60% of your table length.

Can you create custom sized Hairpin Legs?

If you require a custom size leg we would be happy to assist, we can produce any size under 1 meter.

What is the paint you use?

All our legs are powder coated. Powder is sprayed onto the legs which have an electric charge passing through them. This causes the paint to stick. Next they are baked in an oven, causing the paint to melt together and form an extremely smooth, durable layer.

Can you paint the legs in any colour?

For custom colours, we spray paint the legs with Quick Dry enamel paint.

Minimum order size of 4 legs are required and custom charges will apply.

What thickness top will the legs work with?

Our hairpin legs are designed to fit to your top with 3 screws. We provide threaded metal inserts for your tabletop, using the screws provided we suggest a minimum thickness of 18mm.

Can you provide bare (uncoated) legs? If so, how long does it take for bare legs to rust?

Yes we can make bare legs for you. Bare legs will be prone to rusting.

Indoors

Bare legs will eventually rust indoors due to natural moisture in the air. The rate at which they will rust depends entirely on how humid or dry your home is.

Bare legs can be up kept in the home by giving them a good scrub every now and again with some WD40 and a scotch pad.

Outdoors

If it rains your bare steel legs will rust within a matter of hours…

Some customers actually love the rusted steel look. To achieve this quicker you can apply some vinegar or lemon juice onto your legs and leave them outside for a few days.
